Good suggestions. Small, but probably better than they were 40 years ago. :D BTW, how is the spousal unit?

Duke, UNC, Emory are small potatoes?

they are in NC....and like all very close to each other. The properties there aren't very cheap in Raleigh when I looked

I mean the NE has Columbia, NYU, Mt. Sinai, Yale, Mass Gen, Tufts, Boston Children's, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and many, many others.

I have a friend that's been in for close to 20 that's at Bragg. They live in Cameron. He said something about a back entrance into Bragg and an easy drive while getting to live away from Fayet'nam.

But there are so many New Yorkers up there....yuck.

truth be told, most NYers are a-ok. You leave them alone, and for the most part they leave you alone.

I like to laugh at the Florida man memes as much as anyone, but there isn't anywhere else in the US with that kinda weather from October to March (save for San Diego, and I can't afford that) so I'm looking to fly south to the west coast of FL in the next few years.

the problem is, that you have an inverse winter of can't do anything in the hot humid FL weather, so you end up inside for most of the day, much like a northern winter, except with hurricanes, and torrential rain storm almost every day

back to UNC or Duke even ranked Top 25 this year?

she is making painfully slow progress. Still with a recurring cough and low energy levels but she does seem to be incrementally moving forward. Thanks for asking.

Atrium in Charlotte, Duke, Emory, Cone (Greensboro, NC), MUSC (Charleston, SC), Vidant (Greeneville NC) are all top 100.

I'd consider renting for a while. Rental prices are likely going to rise, which will raise BAH (if you're still AD) in order to compensate and keep SMs out of the poor house due to cost of living. By then the market should have slowed down/stabilized.

Or, like mentioned earlier, buy some land and put a "manufactured home" (not a trailer) on it. If you haven't looked at any lately you'll be surprised at the level of quality and amenities you get for your money.

Easy to rent when you leave, or sell at a profit...or retire and enjoy without breaking the bank.

    Sweatypants I am so smart! S-M-R-T... I mean S-M-A-R-T!

I've considered the possibility too. Cheapest a studio would get around here tho is like $300k, or maybe $220k in the hood. I don't make enough tho to maintain that and a $500k house. Or maybe i do but i don't wanna. If i could get it to a week or 2 every quarter, i'd just do a hotel and rent a car honestly. Or maybe ask my brother to sleep on his basement floor. I could do anything for a week. Who knows.

You'll be surprised at just how fast you acclimate. I was born and raised in FL, then moved to central and southern Texas for 9 years. So I love the heat.

Now I've been in Wisconsin for 2 years and can hangout outside ( in FL summer clothing) when its 35-40 degrees and sunny. Me and the wife are like ooh, its gonna be warm out when its 40 deg and sunny, then we laugh about how absurd that would've sounded to us 2 years ago. Same thing will happen when you move south. First year might be miserable. Second year you'll love that you wont ever have a "winter" again. Year round MC riding, beaches, fishing, hiking, camping, yadda, yadda.

You don't do anything in the summer only if you're a giant wuss to be honest.. my dad lived in Florida for 30 years before we moved to NC, he's a mechanic and we didn't have ac in the house or the cars. We did stuff all the time all year round as do most people

The housing market in the area is nuts. Very little inventory. Try Fuquay-Varina, Lillington, or Eastover. Fuquay is a bit of a drive but Eastover to Bragg is pretty quick with the new 295 beltway. You're a smart man staying out of Fayettenam. The place is a fucking shithole..

I mean it sounds nice and all, but both of our folks are here, and they are getting older, like my Dad breaking his foot the other day slipping on ice going to work. At least I'm nearby if they need me for anything. And I've talked with them and they don't want to move. They like the changing of the seasons, and they like where they are at. Old people, do old people things.

It’s gotta be gray and overcrowded to be civilization. These don’t qualify. That also leaves out all the medical school Universities in Florida too.

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and MD Anderson in Houston are JV for cancer too.

And there’s no ice to slip and fall on below Richmond most times. Where’s the fun in that?

Emory is in Atlanta. Mercer, in Macon, has a good reputation as does MCG in Augusta (or whatever they are calling it these days)

True, I simply wanted to point out that the NE is not the center of the universe. You are permitted to move as far south as VA.:D
