I think it's dumb when they could have used a chopper and not put lives on the road at risk.
edit : I know the article mentions there was no helipad, but that,s a bs excuse. Choppahs can land anywhere or could have landed where there was a pad and delivered it in a normal vehicle.

Helicopters can't fly all the time. I saw on the news last weekend a story about a heart that travel next to the conductor of a French high-speed train because the helicopter was grounded by weather. They mentioned that the Italians use their high-speed patrol cars in similar circumstances. That could have been what happened there.

Have you ever even seen video of driving in Italy? There was no more risk than at any other time

From long years of experience I can assure you, any Italian aircraft that might have been used was grounded, waiting for parts.

No heli pad and no flat area to land where the kidney was needed. Hence, the Lambo.

Imagine being all prepped for your new kidney and the Doc says,”It’s on it’s way in a Lamborghini...”

Oh, shit.. my new kidney is reliant on an Italian hanger queen? Don’t take me off the list yet doc!!

Considering they had camera crews every step of the way, I think we know why this actually happened.

While weather may have played a part, a long rope could be used to pick up and drop off the cooler containing the kidney if lack of a suitable landing area was the concern. I'm sure that the Italian military even had choppers with winches that could have worked, if someone really wanted it to happen. Consider it a training exercise.

You all are buzzkills. It's just wicked cool a Lambo was used for the task. They already had the vehicle outfitted for purposes such as this. Way cheaper to drive it there than use a helo.

I watched an episode of one of the police chase type shows in the UK back in the 90's where they transported a heart from a donor somewhere in the south of England to a hospital in the middle of London. The while episode was about an hour long which was the time it took from picking the organ up to getting to the other hospital, they showed it with no commercial breaks.

The cops delivering it were from a force from outside London so they didn't have a lot of knowledge of the city, once there they were met by a couple of blokes on bikes who they followed. It was pretty impressive to watch both their driving as they approached the city and then the motorcycle police who they followed.

Much cheaper until some espresso-jacked up Italian cop plows into your Fiat doing 150 mph. Then the caca hits the ventilatore.
